What You Need To Know About Pizza Delivery And You Teen's First Time Ordering

by Richard Schmidt

Your teenagers would gladly order pizza delivery from the nearest sandwich shop every night if you let them. Even though you spent years ordering for them, now they're old enough to make the call themselves. If your newly-turned teen isn't entirely sure how to order, take a look at the how you can help.

Review the Menu Together

What should your child order? If left to their own devices, the answer to that question may include everything on the menu. Review the menu with your child and discuss:

  • Favorite items. What does your child usually eat? Their favorite pizza pick is a good bet for the next order.
  • Potential new choices. Is there something on the menu you feel your child may enjoy, but hasn't tried yet? Point out new items your child may like.
  • The best combinations. Does your teen like sandwiches, pizza, and other menu options? Discuss which items combine best to make a full meal.

After you review the menu, it's time to get into the details. Read on for more information on what to talk about next.

Discuss Finances

How much money does your teen have to spend? If you leave behind cash, your teen has a clear limit. But if you give them a credit card, they could go overboard. Before your teen orders discuss:

  • Reasonable spending. Your teen and their friends could order enough pizza to feed a small town. Talk about how much is a reasonable amount to spend on a pizza lunch or dinner and what's excessively expensive.
  • Responsible spending. Your teen is a young adult now. Let them step up and take responsibility for their own spending with their next order. If you have concerns about your teen spending responsibly, ask them to pay for the pizza themselves.
  • Additional spending. The pizza, sandwiches, and other items aren't all your teen will need to pay for. Explain additional expenses, such as tax and a tip for the delivery driver.

Now that your teen knows what to order and how much they should pay, you can move on to topics such as courtesy and etiquette.

Talk about Ordering Etiquette

How should your teen order their pizza/sandwiches? Discuss ordering etiquette. Include how to place the initial order, questions to ask before hanging up (such as the cost and time-frame), thanking the person who takes the order, and showing courtesy to the delivery driver.

Is your teen old enough to call for their own pizza delivery? If so, follow these simple suggestions to make the process easier for everyone involved.
